90: Allemandes
Next, we come to the Allemande (“the German”), yet another dance form common in Baroque suites. These rather slow dances are in simple duple or quadruple meter (i.e., 2 or 4, without any factors of 3—so no 3, 6, 12, etc.), and almost always begin before the first beat of the first bar, with an anacrusis. Furthermore, these are almost always, after the prelude if there is one, the first dance in the suites.
